Accomplishments

Serving on the Sandy City Council 2005-2015:

  1. Bell Canyon conservation easement; provides a mechanism whereby the only way Sandy can sell the property is if the public votes to sell the property.
  2. Council Chairman first half of 2008 and present Chair 2015.
  3. Committee Member; Re-write the Land Development Code – 2008
  4. Committee Chair; Re-write of Animal Control Ordinances
  5. Formed and Chaired the Sandy City Cottonwood Canyon Tourism Committee Alliance; 2007.
    • Receive five State matching grants for out of state tourism funding
    • Sandy Tourism Map with annual schedule – 2010
    • Began discussion to implement a business district bus service
    • Re-route UTA service to provide more and better transit options to Snowbird and Alta.
  6. Formed and participated with the Piedras Negras Sister City alliance. Provided dozens of humanitarian project’s to the City.
  7. Avalanche Control Center relationship formed.
  8. Helped bring Workers Compensation Fund to Sandy – 330 jobs; 50 million invested in building.
  9. Past President and current member of the Honorary Colonel with Police Department: 2008 – present
  10. Improved relations with Salt Lake County government and presently serving as a committee member:
    • SLCO Open Space Committee – Member 2008
    • Blueprint Jordan River Committee – Chairman 2008
    • Wasatch Canyons Master Plan Update Committee – 2009-2010
  11. Sandy City Committees:
    • Public Utility Advisory Board – Council Representative
    • Transportation Committee (helped update the Sandy Traffic Master Transportation Plan)
    • Housing Committee: Introduced and passed the housing stimulus plan for 2008.
    • Sandy Pride – numerous local projects.
  12. Attended Federal Emergency Management Agency training for Municipal leaders – learning the role of elected officials in an emergency.
  13. Organized the effort to master plan the Bell Canyon Park area including new planned trail heads in the Highland Drive corridor.
  14. Lobbied and continuing efforts to have SLCO improve Dimple Dell Park North Rim Trail from Granite Park to the Light Rail Station.
  15. Received the 2009 Sandy Area Chamber of Commerce – Leading Commerce. Development Official Award.
  16. Helped get a State law/bill passed making the sale of drug paraphernalia to minors illegal.
  17. Voting Member of the League of Cities and Towns – 2010 legislative session.
  18. Successfully arranged to have 200 volunteers help in planning the park strip and hillside trees on Sandy Pride day – 2010.
  19. Successfully planned and took down medical equipment to the Sandy Sister City Piedras Negras civic hospital for children.
  20. Was able to get Snowbird to relocate the Hill climb race (300-400 participants) start back to Sandy City at 9400 south Highland Dirve.
  21. Past recipient of the Sandy City prestigious Noel Bateman Award
  22. Past recipient of the Sandy City Humanitarian of the Year Award
